Vesrah Suzuki GNCC Amateur team update
5/31/08
The team has had
a great start and a learning experience this season. Certainly Scott and Joe are both experienced, but
racing at a national level is very different than racing at a local level.
The team took on the GNCC series from the start and has not really looked back. The adventure of doing
the series, trying to up the pace and race at the front of their respective groups, learn the culture of the GNCC series and
experience racing a different kind of racing has all been a fantastic experience so far.
It has not all been perfect though.
Scott found himself in the top 5 of his class after Big
Buck, but unfortunately fell and hurt his wrist there. The wrist injury kept him from starting the Loretta’s
race and he fell out of the top 5 at that time.
Joe had
a difficult start to the season, between being cautious and tenuous over his knee just 4 months after major ACL reconstruction,
and a disastrous race in Georgia where he was stuck multiple times in the mud and eventually fried his clutch and had to abandon
the race. Nonetheless, by the time Big Buck and Loretta’s came along he was getting into the top
10 in his class.
This weekend is the Sparta race. Joe
was never scheduled to go due to his daughter’s high school graduation. Scott has a new baby at home,
and determined that his best course of action was to skip that race and focus on additional rehab with his wrist and his family
at home. Unfortunately for the teams GNCC effort that means we will be starting our summer GNCC break 1
race earlier than we anticipated.
In addition to various mountain bike races
and cycling events that were on the teams schedule for the summer, booth Scott and Joe have added additional local Harescrambles
races and Enduro’s to the schedule to continue to build racing speed and to develop additional race fitness.
The team will be back on the GNCC circuit at Snowshoe in early Sept.
